The unbelievable story of a one-handed Olympic Hero.

How will you feel after losing the most important thing required to achieve your dream? Most of us will give up. Will lose hope. But there are some people who refuse to give up even after losing everything.

Karoly Takacs is one of these people. Karoly was the first shooter to win two Olympic gold medals in 25-meter rapid fire pistol event. You will be wondering what's so heroic in that? Just read ahead.

Karoly was in the Hungarian army. He was a world-class pistol shooter. He was expecting success at the 1940 Summer Olympics.

During army training in 1938, his right hand was badly injured when a faulty grenade exploded in his hands. He was a shooter. And the most important thing required to win a medal was no longer with him. What did he do? Quit? No. Instead, he started practising with his non-dominating hand. He started training with his left hand secretly.

In 1939 he showed up at the Hungarian National Pistol Shooting Championship. Everybody thought he came to watch other shooters and encourage them. But everyone got surprised when Karoly said, "I didn't come to watch, I am here to compete." He won that championship.

1940 and 1944 Olympics were cancelled due to World War II. Karoly kept training. Then he tried his luck in the 1948 London Olympics. Now, Karoly surprised the whole world by winning a gold medal. He won another gold medal in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics.

Would anyone ever have thought that a man with the injured dominating hand will win not one but two Olympic gold medals? No one will have believed that. But the thing is, you have to believe in yourself, not any other person. Karoly did believe that he still can win with his left hand.

His right hand was not functional. But his left hand was. The thing is that you should be thinking about the things that you have, the resources you have, the ability you have. Don't waste your time and energy thinking about things you don't have or can't have.
